USL’s Clarity Clinches Victory at Philippine Startup Challenge 8
December 6, 2023 - Cebu City, Philippines - University of Saint Louis’ (USL) Team Clarity soared to victory at the national stage of the Philippine Startup Challenge 8 after securing their regional win last October 12, 2023. Among the 17 regional champions, Clarity stood out, marking an unmatched achievement for the team. Led by students Rodrigo Barien III (BSECE-4), Richmond Lavadia (BSCS-4), and Emmalaine Llamas (BSCS-3), under the mentorship and guidance of their esteemed coach, Mr. Sander Sedano (ITE Faculty), Team Clarity once again demonstrated their brilliance, bagging the championship title. Clarity is an AI-powered Visual Studio Code extension that offers context-aware code insights, precise explanations, and smart comments, enhancing comprehension for developers. Beyond this, it provides tailored exercises and recommends relevant learning courses from an extensive library, aiding users in bridging knowledge gaps and improving coding skills.

EcoCharge Wins Best Paper Award at ICRAIE 2023
The accolades continue for the University of Saint Louis (USL) as one of the presented papers emerged victorious at the 8th International Conference on Recent Advances and Innovations in Engineering (ICRAIE) held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on December 2, 2023. The paper, titled "EcoCharge: Innovative Solar and Wind Charging Station Enabled by Solid Waste Contributions," developed and implemented a waste management system utilizing solar and wind energy for charging small electronic devices, which effectively detects waste and provides free electrical charging based on the disposed waste type. Additionally, this collective effort involves a team of researchers, including John Paulo Guiao, Mark Francis Pera, Reel Jerin Ignacio, Noel Malana, Jon Michael Magat, Norman Bob Gomez, and Ertie Abana.

USL-PanTreat wins 1st place in the iDeaTech Challenge 2023
University of Saint Louis (USL)-PanTreat had emerged victorious, clinching the top position in the prestigious iDeaTech Challenge 2023 held on September 19-20, 2023 at Mango Suites, Cauayan City. PanTreat or Pantry-Treat is an app designed for food waste management while promoting responsible food consumption. Meanwhile, the team includes four students, namely: Jessie James Sarol, Nathaniel Caranguian, Jacob Ong, and Zaira Marie Villegas, together with their coach, Sir Aristotle Dumayag. The Louisian community is very proud for this milestone, featuring innovation and technology at its finest.

Professor Gladys Tumbali, an instructor in the School of Accountancy, Business and Hospitality has virtually presented her paper entitled Drivers of Engagement among Full-time Faculty from Private University in First International Conference on Technology Innovative Educational and Multidisciplinary Skills In The 21st Century Research. The same paper is published in Turkish Journal of Computer and Mathematics Education, an Scopus-Indexed Journal.
GE Research awarded 3rd Best Research Paper in the 1st RAFNET 2020
The research paper entitled “Vulnerability Assessment of Shelters: Basis for Development of Flood and Wind Map” presented by Engr. Jaime Daliuag of the GE program was awarded 3rd best paper in the Engineering and Technology Research Category of the 1st Regional Agriculture, Fisheries & Natural Resources, Engineering & Technology Virtual Research Conference hosted by Cagayan Valley Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development Consortium (CVIERDEC), RRDC-NEDA and DOST-RO2.
ECE Research awarded 2nd Best Commercialization Research in the 13th Annual Research Awards
The research project entitled “Automated African Nightcralwer's Vermicast Production” was awarded as 2nd Best Commercialization Research in the 13th Annual Research Awards hosted by Polytechnic University of the Philippines and co-hosted by the Department of Science and Technology last October 28, 2020. The project was presented by Kathrine C. Tio, Frynz Clyd C. Agustin, Jayvee L. Castellon, Rustonel M. Vergara, electronics engineering students.
CHRD Head presented at the DOST PCHRD 3-Minute Policy Pitch Competition
With the aim to exercise and cultivate researchers’ academic, presentation, and research communication skills, the DOST PCHRD conducted the 3-Minute Policy Pitch competition. This activity highlighted the importance of communicating research findings to inform and share evidence to policy makers. It was participated by health researchers representing the 17 different regional health research consortia in the country. The Policy pitch presented by Ms. Jonalyn P. Santos is entitled “A Call to Respond: Empowering Primary Health Care Facilities” and this was based on the research entitled “Health System Responsiveness of Primary Health Care Nursing in Rural Health Unit of Iguig, Cagayan: A Triangulation Study”.

The researches entitled “Analysis of the Hemagglutinating Activity of Namnama Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea) Crude Seed Extract for Blood Typing” authored by Jonalyn P. Santos, Stefanee R. Uanang, Jomaico Diether D. Daguio, Michaella M. Furugganan, Ma. Theresa Diana R. Padilla and “White Onion (Allium cepa) Bulb Based Agar Concentrations on the Growth Rate of Gram Negative Bacteria “ authored by Alvin A. Aldea, Jonalyn P. Santos, Marjaneh F. Cachero, Carl, Mr. Joshua A. Matote, Cateleen, Lyle I. Rances were included in the research poster presentation entries during the 69th PHILAAST Annual Convention. The event was conducted online via Zoom and was also streamed live via Facebook.
CHRD Head Presented Research Project to DOH-CVCHD
The DOH-CVCHD conducted the Finalization of Research Proposals and Consultative Meeting with the different HEIs and SUCs in Tuguegarao City who have presented research proposal projects for funding last December 11, 2020. This activity was done to finalize the different proposal projects and address any concerns that the research proponents and the members of DOH-CVCHD on the proposed research projects. The research entitled “Responsiveness of Primary Health Care Facilities” was presented by Ms. Jonalyn P. Santos, the project leader of the research project. This study will assess the level of responsiveness of selected primary health care facilities in Cagayan Valley.
